Turtle bottle opener

The multi-purpose Turtle Opener is made from recycled nylon sourced from discarded fishing nets. Inspired by a baby green sea turtle holding a plastic bag in the ocean. The green sea turtle is classified as an endangered species by both the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and CITES, and is currently protected in most countries.

The multi-purpose Turtle Opener functions as a beer bottle opener and is designed to help elderly individuals and women, especially mothers with weakened wrists after childbirth, to open PET bottles. Additionally, the tail end of the opener serves as a can opener for women with long nails. Targeting women in their 20s and 30s, it is designed to be easily portable with a keyring function. A neodymium magnet at the bottom allows it to be attached to a refrigerator for quick access when needed.

This product is made using the Trieco series of recycled nylon from Samyang Corporation, sourced from discarded fishing nets collected, sorted, cleaned, and ground by the startup Netspar. While most of the recycled compounds from fishing nets are used in automotive parts and batteries, Samyang Corporation has partnered with PIGLAB to supply materials for high-value consumer products.

Marine debris consists of 45.3% discarded fishing nets, which are responsible for the deaths of over 100,000 marine animals each year. These nets sink and entangle marine life, and even when broken down into smaller pieces, they contribute to microplastic pollution, exacerbating marine contamination.
